MIAMI ISD

Hello! My name is Valerie Word and this is my third year as the Miami ISD principal. This also marks my 15th year as an educator having taught at both the elementary level and the secondary level.  

As your principal, I look forward to continuing to build relationships with our wonderful students, families, teachers, staff and community. I understand the importance of our partnership and I am excited to work with you to help your child learn and grow.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this school this last year and I am eager to continue to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success moving forward. 

I believe in setting high expectations and will continue to keep student achievement as a top priority. We experienced a great increase in our achievements last year and we expect the same this year. We will continue to meet every child where they are and move them forward. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by Miami ISD.

All of us at Miami ISD are eager and excited to continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections. As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors is excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun and nurturing environment. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to supporting our students.
